Origin story

The cup before
the company

I began with something my mother had already solved for our family.

Before I had a company, my brother and I were living in different cities away from home. A full Kehwah needed several ingredients and careful proportions. My mother wanted us to have the cup without rebuilding it from scratch each time.

She prepared an unsweetened version we could carry with us. It began as ordinary family care: something familiar prepared for two sons who would be away for months.

My mother's method began by instinct.

She had learnt Kehwah from her mother, her grandmother, and her aunts in Kashmir. Over time she kept tasting it—retaining an ingredient when it belonged, taking it out when it did not, and looking for a cup in which colour, aroma, and flavour held together.

She describes the family preparation as something that evolved over years rather than arriving in a single day. When the idea of a brand emerged, instinct became a written recipe that the two of us could work on together.

“I never thought that I would brand it. This whole credit goes to my son, Sachet. It is his brainchild.”

Ma · from her recorded account

Turning a family cup into a repeatable one.

At home, my mother made Kehwah by feel. Once I decided to build the brand, we measured the mixture properly. We looked at the liquor before the first sip, noticed what arrived on the nose, followed how the flavour moved across the palate, and paid attention to the finish. My immediate family tasted the blends first; then we shared them with an early circle of roughly 25–30 people.

I wanted our version to remain legible. Kehwah is slightly different in every house; ours carries the balance my mother preferred, the cup I drank every day, and the hospitality of our table.

In April 2022, I gave the cup a company.

I registered Kehwah in Noida in April 2022. The original No Sugar Instant Kehwah became the first product because it was already the clearest answer to why I was doing this: taking a known family cup and making it practical enough to travel.

The registration date marks the beginning of the company. The beginning of the cup sits earlier, at home, in the unremarkable care of a mother preparing something for her children. That order matters to me. It keeps the brand honest about what it inherited and what I built.
